Digital Detox

Reducing electronic distractions. Except Tumblr and Twitter.
I’m currently in the process of detoxifying myself from facebook, instagram and any type of portable game.

I’m not denying my self of the technology, I’m simply- cutting down. Why am I blogging about it? I want to trace the experience because in the back of my head I think that all this technology can make us move forward, but they can also hinder us.

UPDATE… because I clearly needed too, right?

OCTOBER 8TH 2015:

Well poop, I’ve been keeping away from technology that I haven’t updated this section of my blog – or my whole entire blog rather. Either way, If I can do it – so can you!
Also, I got a full-time job. Yay!

Reducing electronic distractions. Except Tumblr and Twitter.
Managing a clear social media stream.
Detoxifying myself from addictive games that destroy me and my time.

Here are the is an update list of social media and games I play

Facebook (Please refer to rant below)
Twitter (I use it as my news stream)
Instagram (more often, limiting myself to less than 100 images – so I filter through my photos once a month.)
Wordpress (This is it.) CLICK HERE
Tumblr (Barely)
Google + (Barely)
Skype (Work related activities only)
LinkedIN

Samurai Seige
Candy Crush (I just started again – March 2014)

TSUMTSUM (Fuck you cute Disney animal things)

AS OF DECEMBER 26th 2014

I’ve reduced my social media use by 83% since I removed data use on my cell phone.
I’m like an animal on the loose ya’ll.

I’m limited to the WIFI availability (Not that horrible really)
I use my phone as a phone.
I talk to my friends at the table and they’ve started to talk back. Yay!
My phone bill? 35$ dollars a month.
Catching up on some zzz’s on transit rather than playing games on my phone.
Reading, like actually reading books on transit.

I’m ready for you 2015.

AS OF SEPTEMBER 1st 2014

I’m still using all the social media, Facebook is well and alive, although I took myself of it for a month, it’s hard not to be back on the wagon.
Have I reduced my use of it? I try everyday.
I’m trying half an hour everyday.

I’m back in WordPress land, mainly because it’s my first and oldest blog. I like it.

I’ve had to use my computer a lot more because I literally work on my computer 8 hours a day. Oh Yeah, I’ve had a job since MAY 2014 it’s not much but it’s a job. I think of it as a stepping stone to newer and better things. Mainly something that pays more, I’VE GOT BILLS TO PAY!

(March 14th 2014)

Average time of technology use (13 hrs)
Samurai Seige 4 hrs
Candy Crush 2 hrs
Social Media and Web Surfing 4 hrs.
Movie: The Croods (99 minutes)
(I still have to touch my homework)

March 15th 2014

I woke up. I tuned on my phone and played Samurai Siege and candy crush. After 40 minutes, I decided it was time to delete these games. So I said peace out to my Samurai Siege Alliance and although I hesistated. I deleted Candy Crush.

It has only been 20 minutes and I am already itching to look at my phone to play the game. So I distracted myself by typing this. Ta-da!

As for Facebook, the account is still open. I turned off all the notification sounds and I also took it off my quick access page on Google chrome. Let us see how long that works.

But I literally woke up and immediately stared at my phone. To think I’ve been doing this every morning for the past year kinda make me nauseous. I live with my partner, we sleep on the same bed. I spend more time on the phone that I do saying good morning. This needs to stop.

 March 16th 2014

Awake at 2:30pm. Didn’t check my phone. Spent some time in bed and went for a walk.
I’ve checked my phone three times to see if I received any text message and to see if party buds were alive. I’ve also played a good 1hr of Candy Crush on Facebook and watched an episode of Once Upon a Time. I’m moving onto homework.

Till Tomorrow. stay awesome.

March 19th 2014

Not a whole lot of useless internet. A lot of Job Hunting.
Must write paper that is due tomorrow at 9:30am.
I have SS on my ipad, but luckily- I don’t use it as often.
Candy Crush? Well I’m glad they’ve placed some sort of limitations. I would be playing it all day.

March 28th 2014

It’s been almost 10 days since my last attempt at this blog, I guess not I have a bit more to day.

I’ve failed, Candy Crush and Samurai Siege have taken over my phone and clearly, the internet in general has got me hooked.

Before I forget to mention, I’ve also added pinterest to my new list of phone application addiction.

So today, I don’t start a new but rather, just focus on more important things that I have to do on the world wide web, like research for essays. I’m also job hunting, here is to hoping I get a job so I can stop playing such games.

Alrighty, moving forward… 3500 word paper, 2500 word essay, 2000 word book review. SURE!!! See you in a week tumblr.

March 29th 2014

I woke up at 8:02, didn’t leave my bed until 9:30. Realized my laptop was on the bed, I lied back down went on Facebook, Installed Flipboard on my Laptop, Posted 3 things on my tumblr blog. Played Candy Crush for 10 minutes and prepped my army on Samurai Siege. I am a champion of procrastination. It is now 11:24am. I still haven’t finished a paper. I now only have myself to blame.

 April 18 2014

I’ve officially taken my self facebook. I’m still on facebook.

I have “Fear of Missing Out” Syndrome, FOMO, so I keep wanting to go back. Too much FOMO, back on FB.

I’m addicted to Samurai Seige like it’s crack- you would think I would be a high lvl or something- but I’m not. Gotta cut that shit out- but it’s hard to cut out a game you’ve spent money on.

Go ahead and judge, I’m judging myself.

I started deleting pictures on Instagram limiting my Instagram to 100 images only. I try to keep important things on my twitter. Mainly international news or something global development related.

Did I mention I need to find a job, and this being distracted by social media is probably not helping my broke ass? Yeah.
